Breakfast Strata: The Make-Ahead Brunch Star
There’s something magical about waking up and knowing breakfast is already taken care of — especially when it’s as good as this Breakfast Strata.
Part casserole, part savory bread pudding, a strata layers bread, eggs, cheese, and whatever fillings you like into one delicious, satisfying dish. It’s my go-to for holiday mornings, lazy Sundays, or anytime I’m hosting brunch and want to spend more time with guests than at the stove.
I started making strata when I realized I could prep it the night before, stick it in the fridge, and pop it in the oven while coffee brewed. By the time everyone was up, the house smelled incredible, and breakfast was served. Great for dinner too!
🛒 Ingredients
- 6 cups cubed bread (day-old works best)
- 1 cup cooked breakfast sausage or diced ham
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 8 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional, for extra flavor)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
