Quilting: Math

As my family is all made up of people with a math and science interest, I decided a few years ago to create a quilt from a math pattern. I chose the Tesselation of the Plane in 5 Fold Symmetry by Penrose. The pattern is put together with two shapes and going out into infinity would never repeat.

Of course I couldn’t make a quite that was infinitely big, so I chose the center bit. The section I created is done in blues and is then applicated onto a sheet background. Each piece is whipstitched together.
