I just saw a sign on a nearby house that read “Take America Back,” and I can’t help but wonder — who exactly do they think they’re taking America back from? Is it the immigrants? This country was built by immigrants, and unless you’re of Native American heritage, your family came here from somewhere else too. The notion of “taking America back” from immigrants is not only historically inaccurate but also deeply rooted in a misunderstanding of what this country stands for.
Or is it the Democrats they want to take America back from? I’m so exhausted by the constant stream of insults and divisive rhetoric. Let’s not forget that Republicans currently control half of Congress and hold a significant majority in the Supreme Court. Yet, the narrative persists that America needs to be “rescued” from some imagined enemy.
And let’s talk about the so-called ‘leader’ who is championing this “Take America Back” slogan. He has openly expressed his desire to declare himself a dictator, undermining the very democratic principles this country was founded on. Anyone else getting flashbacks to King George III and the American Revolution? The irony is almost too much to bear. We fought a war to escape the clutches of a tyrant, and now there are people rallying around a man who aspires to the same kind of unchecked power.
