The Transformative Journey with Mounjaro: A Personal Tale of Health and Weight Loss

I do still have quite a ways to go. I needed to lose 150 pounds and have lost 30 so far…. Years ago, though I remember my youngest becoming obsessed with weighing himself after hearing me mention my weight and my efforts to lose. After that experience I try to go with the whole just want to get healthy and not focus on weight. As time has gone on though I’ve noticed that I can lift less weight, get out of breath easier, and more. Until I started working away from home I was a healthy weight, but then driving hours each day and working at a sedentary job, my weight just started creeping up and after over 20 years it’s at an obese stage in the almost 40 BMI range.

Embarking on a journey towards better health and weight loss can be a daunting endeavor, especially when facing challenges like prediabetes, high blood pressure, and a significant amount to lose. My story begins with a small yet powerful change — starting Mounjaro (tirzepatide) in March, a decision that led to losing around 30 pounds. I had tried weight watchers, Jenny Craig and more with no results. Because I already eat fairly healthy it was more than just calories in vs calories out. When you add in menopause and medications that can cause weight gain it makes it like climbing a mountain while dragging a very large boulder.

The Mounjaro Experience: Understanding Its Impact

Mounjaro, although primarily used for treating Type 2 diabetes, has shown remarkable effectiveness in weight loss, as evident in my journey. Clinical studies have highlighted its potential, revealing that participants can expect to see a significant reduction in weight over time. For example, during an 84-week trial, participants experienced an average weight loss of 26.6%, a statistic that resonates deeply with my experience​​​​. Last month Mounjaro was re-released as Wepbound specifically targeting weight loss. I’m hoping that with the change my insurance will start embracing these medications. Insurance does cover bariatric surgery which seems to involve more recovery time and more expense, but so far they are not covering the medications that are showing such promising results.

Combining Medication with Lifestyle Changes
